THE EXPERIENCE
I was super excited when I found out we were going to be visiting Tulum and the Jungle Gym was the first on my list!
When we arrived, it took us quite a while to find the actual location. If you use google maps, it will take you to an approximate location but in order to find the actual location, you have to walk towards the beach.
My best advice regarding locating the gym is to park your car or your bike at Ahau and walk straight towards the beach. Once you’re on the beach, walk along the beach past all the beach bars and you will see the gym in no time.
When we first arrived at the gym, it was honestly pretty empty because we went right when it opened. The gym is split into an outside area and an inside area. The outside area has some free weights and ropes, while the inside area has your squat racks and bench presses.
As for clothing, we actually saw everything from workout clothes to bathing suits (which was honestly pretty cool). At first I was a little unsure whether or not I should be squatting in a bikini but literally everyone else there was doing it so I opened up to the idea. As much as it was a jungle gym, it honestly felt more like a beach playground. We loved every minute of it!
RECOMMENDATIONS & TIPS
My biggest piece of advice is try to plan when you want to come visit the Jungle Gym and make sure to budget enough time. Initially when we were planning our trip, we wanted to come check it out, take a few pictures, and call it a day. However, it was so much fun and time went super fast.
Another piece of advice is make sure you have bug spray. This is not like your usual indoor gym that is air conditioned. This is literally right on the beach in the jungle and there are a lot of bugs. I sprayed on a half bottle of bug spray and still got eaten alive mosquitos. However, the experience was well worth it!
